Overview

Alfie's stakes its claim in the heart of Sydney’s bustling CBD as a steakhouse with a clear, confident vision: excel at one thing and make every detail count. Located on Bligh Street, this intimate venue invites diners into a focused culinary experience centered on their signature aged sirloin steak. The simplicity of offering primarily one main cut is a bold move that Alfie’s pulls off with precision, delivering a perfectly cooked 220-gram sirloin with enticing charring and a standout green mustard that complements the meat brilliantly.

The space carries a refined yet unpretentious ambiance, well suited for both a quick, satisfying lunch and a relaxed pre-theatre dinner. Alfie’s manages to blend warmth and attentiveness in service, creating an inviting atmosphere where staff anticipate needs without overwhelming, though some guests note the near-constant check-ins. The result is a dining rhythm that respects your time yet fosters comfort.

Beyond the steak lies an array of sides that elevate the meal without stealing the spotlight. Charred Brussels sprouts, roasted baby carrots, and an inventive bubble squeak slaw offer fresh textures and balanced flavors. Potato rosti and mash bring comforting familiarity, while standout dishes like the potato gratin and steak potato salad add depth. Alfie’s thoughtfully curates these accompaniments to enhance rather than compete, emphasizing quality and seasonal ingredients.

Desserts here dare to be memorable, with options like Gypsy Treacle Tart and the intriguingly named gelato on a stick—a collaboration that introduces savory notes of burnt honey, beef fat, and rosemary, making for a distinctively Australian twist. The Jam Roly Poly, served with vanilla custard, rounds out the sweet offerings with old-world charm. Cocktails and an impressively varied wine list further enrich the experience, appealing to connoisseurs and casual drinkers alike.

Alfie’s appeals to a broad audience—from solo diners seeking a fast, expertly prepared meal to groups celebrating special occasions. The attentive, personable staff add a layer of warmth that resonates with locals and visitors. This steakhouse doesn’t just serve a meal; it crafts a carefully honed dining moment where simplicity meets depth, and classic flavors meet modern touches.

In essence, Alfie’s distills steak dining to its essence without sacrificing complexity. It’s a destination for those who appreciate quality cuts, thoughtful sides, and meaningful service wrapped in a cozy city setting. For anyone in Sydney craving honest, well-executed steak fare with a twist on tradition, Alfie’s is a destination worth revisiting.

First restaurant I’ve ever been to where there is only ONE item on the menu: sirloin steak. I love the concept: do 1 thing really well. I think a 220gm steak, was cooked well, good charring, good cut of meat. And the green mustard is amazing. However the sides are also amazing. We had chips, charred cos, charred brussel sprouts and charred cauliflower. Delicious and good complement to the steak. For 4 men - a good dinner. Service was also good. In fact there are almost too many waiting staff as we kept getting waiters coming up - are we ready to order, have you selected the wine, would you like dessert. Overall an enjoyable dining experience in a 2 hour dining slot.

Great ambience and decor. Complimentary scones, drinks, and desserts were amazing. The cocktails were great. Come here for the baked chocolate dessert if you like salted desserts. Steak, mushrooms, and brussel sprouts were good, potato salad I could take or leave. It felt like the sides were all astringent and salty in different ways which didn't necessarily go with the steak or each other. But oh my the dessert was incredible.

Spectacular restaurant. The place to go if you just want steak, with exceptional sides. The Brussels sprouts are a standout. The wine by the glass menu is better than it should be. Desserts was great, as was the desert wine. Very interesting wines on the list. Full of flavour. The steak itself is very good quality, and a bargain for the quality your getting. You could come here and spend $50 and get a fantastic steak - in and out fast, perfect for a lunch break or pre theatre, or use the steak as a base to explore the frills of a steak restaurant and spend some big bucks. It's also just nice to see a new concept roll out.

The concept of this place is fantastic, the service was incredible. Some of the best and friendliest service I’ve had in the city. The food was incredible and cooked perfectly. From the moment we walked in, the staff were so attentive. They noted we were celebrating a birthday and when we ordered dessert put a little candle in it. Love the attention to detail. If you get the chance, TRY the gelato on a stick, it won’t disappoint. We will definitely be back!

This is a great place. Great atmosphere. Simple model - a single cut of steak cooked right plus a range of quality sides. The Brussel sprouts and the potato salad were particularly good. The desert was great also. I got the chocolate mousse with butterscotch. Highly recommend for a casual quality meal. Will be back again.

We had a lovely dinner here last night. The steaks and side dishes were delicious, the waitresses and waiters were attentive and friendly. During our meal, a guy at a nearby table suddenly collapsed and stopped breathing. A young doctor at our table, who’d just arrived with his girlfriend in Sydney from Tokyo for a holiday, immediately rushed over, providing first aid. He supported the guy’s head and airway, staying with him until emergency help arrived. The restaurant staff also handled the situation with composure and care. It was a deeply moving moment to witness such kindness and humanity. An unforgettable evening. Highly recommended.
